This past Wednesday, November 16th 2011 the world famous Budweiser Clydesdale eight-horse hitch and the sample wagon made a special appearance at Planet Fun in the neighboring city of Shallotte, NC.

This equine event began at 4pm and lasted little over an hour. Shifting weather prompted an early end to the event. Santa and friends had a sing-along with holiday music in front of Planet Fun while the team of Clydesdales stood poised for pictures. Dedicated staff diligently tended to the goliath icons, keeping them comfortable in the presence of an elated crowd. Immaculately groomed from head to hoof, roses at the tips of their braided manes and adorned with ornate Budweiser tack, the gallant 8 were well mannered throughout the entire gathering. Their mascot Dalmatian, Brewer stood at his post atop the wagon proudly watching over the activities, while taking in the aromas from the KFC across the street.

While summer has passed and the crowds are gone, it’s still a great time to take the family to the beach.  The days are still warm enough to enjoy looking for seashells or exploring the area. Even though things are a little slower this time of year, it also provides the perfect opportunity for the local businesses to make necessary repairs and upgrades.  It’s also when businesses will start planning for the upcoming year.

 

The past several weeks we at the Ocean Isle Inn have been busy too! We’ve been focusing on our Social Media Program.  If you’ve been anywhere near a computer the past year, no doubt you’ve heard of Twitter, Facebook  and YouTube.  The marketing and advertising trends are quickly transitioning from that of traditional print advertising to digital media.  This past year the Ocean Isle Inn has played host to online Twitter Parties, Tweet-Ups and even our own Social Media Moms Conference and several bloggers have written about us. Now things are getting even better!  We are pleased to be the first area hotel to start our own Featured Bloggers and Ambassadors Program.

Here in North Carolina the endangered Sea Turtles are being watched very carefully.  Every year these Sea Turtle come up on the beach to lay their eggs.  Sometimes their visit to the beach is uneventful. Other times they can arrive hurt or injured by nature or humans.  Here in coastal NC, we have several groups and organizations that have a mission to help those Sea Turtles thrive in their natural habitat and bring awareness to their cause.  Some of the businesses in the very popular nesting areas near the beach are also trying to help residents and vacationers aware of the efforts to keep our Sea Turtles safe!

 

One such business trying to help out the efforts is our company, the Ocean Isle Inn.  Just a short distance from historic Wilmington, NC or Myrtle Beach, SC, the Ocean Isle Inn is in the heart of the Sea Turtle nesting and preservation areas.  If you’ve never seen Sea Turtle, they are absolutely beautiful creatures and they need all the help we are able to give.

 

Just about every hotel you stay in has those little soaps, shampoos and other amenities for you to use during your stay. You see so many different brands and types and most of them are just random items.  Well, the Ocean Isle Inn has chosen a specific brand for a very specific reason.  An environmentally friendly selection of amenities from Brame Specialties called the Preservation Line and features a logo of the Sea Turtle. They chose the Sea Turtle as their logo because it is an indigenous animal to North Carolina and has been endangered for many years.  The Sea Turtle logo isn’t all show, though.  The company has partnered with the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Topsail Island, NC.  A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the Preservation line of products is donated to help the Center save the Sea Turtles.

 

Ocean Isle Beach has its own dedicated team of Sea Turtle volunteers that comb the beach each morning during the nesting season looking for the tale-tell sign of a new Sea Turtle nest.  The Ocean Isle Inn is pleased to be able to give back to our community through this program.

Spring has finally sprung at the coast of North Carolina! While many of our neighbors to the western part of the state are still battling snow and ice, we are opening up the windows to let the sunshine in.  It has been a productive winter though. We’ve been busy with many projects over the past few months at the Ocean Isle Inn: enhancements to our property, upgrading guest amenities, etc. We even redesigned our entire website!  We’ve also worked hard with our staff and our marketing team to develop some great vacation packages. Valentine’s 2010 was indeed unique for visitors at the Ocean Isle Inn here at Ocean Isle Beach, NC. The guests who came to celebrate the special weekend with that really special significant other were greeted by over 4" of snow that covered Ocean Isle Beach on Saturday morning.

As with many other parts of the country, the coastal Carolinas did not escape Mother Nature’s wrath this past weekend. However, unlike a lot of other areas, we were fortunate that our special snowfall was gone by Sunday afternoon. The last major snow that hit Ocean Isle Beach was in 1989 that was over 12" and literally paralyzed this part of the state for several days.

A lot of our guests and locals were out early taking lots of photos of this memorable event. We had a college baseball team staying here that got into the act by making a snowman on the beach early Saturday morning. They were joined by others who chose to engage in snowball fights or take a walk in the snow on the beach-quite an experience.

If you vacation with younger children who may not as yet have developed an appreciation for the beach, sun, and ocean water, we have a suggestion for their entertainment.

 

Again, for 2010, the town of Ocean Isle Beach will be sponsoring a Childrens’ Camp beginning on the first Monday of June and will run until the third Thursday in August.

 

Camp OIB is located at the Community Center at 44 East First Street-just a short walk from the Ocean Isle Inn.  Sessions are held 4 days a week from Monday through Thursday from 10:00 until 12:00, weather permitting.  Campers ages are from 3 to 10 years of age.  Camp OIB can accommodate up to 35 campers per day.  Camp registration begins each day at 9:30 and no reservations are required. An adult must stay with the child for the daily camp session.  The camp is provided free of charge but donations are greatly appreciated.

 

The activities include games, arts and crafts, music, dancing, and stories representing various themes such as boating & water safety; turtles; mermaids and tropics; pirates; seashells, and beach games.

 

This is also provides a wonderful opportunity for visitors to meet other children while they are away from their friends at home.  The adults will also enjoy meeting other vacationers from around the world, and often they will arrange beach play dates for their children while at Ocean Isle Beach.
