2012 2nd Annual Bicycle Poker Run for Paws-Ability

The enthusiasm and success from the first Bicycle Poker Run in 2011 was so extensive that it has become an annual event here at Ocean Isle Beach! The Ocean Isle Inn will again host Paws-Ability’s fundraiser, to take place on October 7th, 2012. Paws-Ability is a non-profit, 501-C3 organization that relies on donations (which are tax deductible) to keep its efforts alive and utilized.

This well received gathering will benefit animal shelters and rescue groups throughout Brunswick County.  As many previous guests may know, the Ocean Isle Inn has a permanent population of feral felines.

The island has several groups of these vermin-regulators that have been assisted greatly by various hotel staff and island inhabitants as well as Paws-Ability.

Wilson, the Wonder Kitty

Their program to spay and neuter strays and issue their necessary inoculations, has kept the populations manageable.

Participants in the 2012 Bicycle Poker Run do not need to know how to play poker.  There will be prizes for the winning hand as well as the worst hand.  No skill required, just a lot of fun! Registration for the event will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Ocean Isle Inn. The riders will be directed to four locations on the island to draw a card for their poker hand.  Street ready golf carts will be available to those not able to ride a bicycle.  The event will end at the Ocean Isle Inn with a poolside party. The party will feature hot dogs, hamburgers, beer and soft drinks as well as a silent auction.  The registration fee is $25 per rider.

There are two methods of registration. The first is to mail a check with participant’s name, email address and phone number to:  Paws-Ability, P.O. Box 6174, Ocean Isle Beach, NC 28469. Or, visit the Paws-Ability website at http://www.paws-ability.org to register and pay online. Ocean Isle Beach is a great place for a bike ride! This event will draw many interested animal lovers to the island for this heart-felt fundraiser. Any participating business may offer specials to the bicycle riders to encourage them to stop in for a snack or cold beverage. Sponsorship for this event is offered at $200.  Supporting sponsors will be listed on the Paws-Ability website, on all printed material including posters and flyers, on t-shirts and in newspaper ads. Sponsorship includes registration fee for 1 bicycle rider.  Silent auction and raffle items are welcomed.
